This is a follow on from our article of 15 April 2019.

The following information has been provided to us:-

Furosemide [frusemide] 40 mg tablets (Diurin 40) supply issue – removal of stat and short expiry date.

Mylan is discontinuing supply of its Diurin 40 tablets – furosemide tab 40 mg. The current stat (all at once) dispensing patterns means that we would expect supplies of Diurin 40 to be exhausted before the new Tender brand (Apotex) is listed on 1 October 2019.

To extend the availability of the remaining stock, we are asking pharmacists to dispense Diurin 40 tablets in lots of one month until further notice. We are considering formally removing stat (all-at-once) dispensing, however this would not be able to take effect until 1 July 2019.

The remaining stock of Diurin 40 has an expiry date of September 2019. We have confirmed with Mylan that this stock can be safely used until 30 September 2019.

The new Tender brand, supplied by Apotex, is due to be listed from 1 October 2019.

PHARMAC are working with Apotex in an endeavor to bring listing date and supply forward.

Please be advised that due to the expiry date on the remaining supplier stock we will be managing stock almost on a hand to mouth basis.

We thank you in anticipation of your ongoing support.
